You sit down at the wheel, the clay goes on, and within about 30 seconds you understand why people get obsessed with this. It's slippery and stubborn and yours all at once.
Choose 1 of 6 projects — bowl, candle holder, vase, cup, pot, or wine tumbler — and throw it on the wheel while the studio does what it's supposed to do: keep you too busy with your hands to think about anything else. Once the shape is where you want it, you press surface patterns into the wet clay with profile tools to make it look like yours specifically.
You leave the piece here. It goes through the kiln while you go live your life, and when it comes out the other side it's a real, fired object that didn't exist before tonight. If you want color and shine on the finished piece, you can add glazing for an extra fee before you go.
Thursday through Saturday the studio runs until 11pm, so this works as an actual night out. Anyone 8 and up can throw on their own; the wheel doesn't care how old you are or how many times you've done this, which is zero, which is fine.
